Out of Nowhere
This painting was done in oils on a stretched canvas. Out west on the open range thunderstorms oftentimes appear suddenly and without warning. This cowboy was taking it easy when he heard the rumble of thunder and saw the skies darken over the distant horizon. The smell of rain was always a welcomed sign as the downpour was necessary to keep grass flourishing for the hungry herds.
